About Us

The goal of Tiny Farm is the production of high quality vegetables via novel sustainable methods. We plant heirloom varieties, grow them using only safe natural materials.  All the purchased soil amendments and biological materials we use are OMRI certified for organic vegetable production. We grow year-round using only solar heat for our hoop houses. The irrigation system use minimal water, by using drip tape to deliver water and nutrients right at the roots of the plants.

The hoop houses “trap” lots of the water that eventually evaporates which eventually condenses and is delivered back to the soil—kind of like giant terrariums. Creating a lush environment for vegetables.  Often when it is freezing outside during cold winter days, our hoop houses are 70-80 degrees inside, without the use of ANY supplemental heating.

Our North Carolina clay is mixed with lots of compost to provide an ideal medium for growing vegetables. We supplement the soil with an abundance of micro nutrients via the addition of materials from ancient sea beds so that we add back the micro-nutrients that have leached for the soils.  These micronutrients provide real nutrition in our produce and real vigor to our vegetables, so that they can resist pests and diseases naturally.

The result of our efforts  - our vegetables are loaded with flavor and real nutrition. They are colorful, fresh and only sold locally .

Our farm is located in Hillsborough, NC.

Why "Tiny Farm"?

Back in the 70's there was a Secretary of Agriculture named Earl Butz. He was also the ex-dean of the Ag school I attended, Purdue. Earl is infamous for his statement to America's farmers, "Get big or get out!", essentially telling every small family farmer that they would be doomed in the future.

So, many years later when I started vegetable farming, Tiny Farm was a most appropriate name for economically viable, high quality, sustainable farm with a very contrarian owner.

Footnote: TinyFarm.com has been on the web for over 12 years now.  Not only do we farm well, but we geek-out pretty good too.
